New York City provides the ideal location for the program, for it provides so much sheer life. Major productions are attended by our students (often at reduced rates or for free); museums, galleries, restaurants, and libraries are used for research and field trips; members of the professional acting community are frequent guest speakers (among them have been Sir Ian McKellan, Suzan-Lori Parks, Andre Braugher, John Turturro, Tony Randall, cabaret star Julie Wilson, Faith Prince, and many others); close proximity to theatres affords the students an opportunity to witness a wide variety of Broadway and off-Broadway shows; and Greenwich Village itself provides many bookstores, record stores and video stores to buy or rent material for class.
While an important theme of the program is that theatre takes place wherever there are people to gather around, and many of our faculty and graduates are active in theatres outside of New York, New York City still offers the highest concentration of resources for students to enjoy and from which they can learn. There is no other playground (or studyground) like it in the world, and our faculty is here to point it out to you.
